Danger Magazine is looking for articles about, well, dangerous topics. Places, activities and jobs that are typically considered dangerous all fall within the Danger Magazine perimeters. What we are not looking for are articles about adventure sports or tours, backpacking in Europe, Asia or South America and national park trips. Additionally, we’re not looking for Jackass style, dangerous activities.
Danger Magazine is interested in “the journey as the destination” and not just the destination itself. For example, we don’t care if you go skiing unless you’re skiing in Kashmir. What makes the story exciting is that you went to Kashmir and figured out how to be there on you own with no tour group to help you.
The positive side of this attitude about submissions is that you don’t necessarily have to be a brilliant writer; if you’ve been somewhere amazing and done something no one else has, we’re definitely interested. If you’ve been someplace like Somalia, C.A.R., Congo or Suriname but aren’t sure what to write an article about, e-mail us and we’ll send you some ideas we’d like to see in print.
We will also be accepting video submissions and photo essays if they’re well done and interesting.
At the moment, we are not paying for submissions, but we will be in the coming months and those who submit now will be given favor once we do start paying.
The exception to this is: if we read a proposal so appealing that we can’t turn it down and we’re afraid you’ll publish with someone else, we may offer compensation.
On the Submissions page we will always maintain a small list of articles that we’d kill to see in print and which will obviously be published if submitted and of a decent quality.
The Current List:
Camping out at the Pyramids at Meroe
Motorcycling Across Africa
Searching for undiscovered Ruins in Peru
Living With Pirates
Animism in Cuba
Graffiti and the Culture of Danger
Hopefully, even if you don’t write an article that has anything to do with any of these titles, the kinds of stories listed above will help you understand what Danger Magazine is looking for.
We’re always looking for an irreverent voice, so you needn’t adhere to the traditional, preaching about how great a place is, style. If some part of a trip really sucked, let us know about it; those are often the best moments during an adventure.
